Posted this on UU but not getting any action there. Have any of you tried using a wax warmer for HHG? The temperature range seems to be in the sweet spot for hide glue. I use a water bath system now but really don't like water around my work area. They make all kinds of these. They are cheap on eBay and amazon. Hey and if they don't work for HHG you can always take the hair off your chest or your girlfriends bikini line. T $26 shipping included on eBay. The only downside I could see is condensation from the glue going up to the lid and then running on the top of the unit. Wax doesn't have condensation so they don't factor that in when them make these. I guess you could aways make an inner lid out of wood or plastic if that is a problem.

Hmmmm... I'm thinking they'd be great for wax-potting pickups. Much better than a double boiler on top of the stove. With these - no fire hazard.

What's UU?

Mike, have you tried one? Looks like it should work.

I just ordered one. Temperature can be set between 80 and 176F. UU is ukulele underground.

Please keep us posted. Was that an e-bay thing or Amazon?

An old Crock Pot from Goodwill works great for wax potting pickups. Doesn't need precise control like hide: turn it on high till all wax is melted, turn it off, and you have probably 30-45 minutes before it starts skinning over.

Anyhoo, yes, where are you finding this unit?

I have been using one for over a year now. I love it. I checked the temp with a meat thermometer, and setting it at 65 C on the scale is perfect.
I use a small glass jelly jar with a lid, so condensation is not an issue.

Seems to me that having hot water around the workplace when using HHG is a good thing. I often dip a rag or paper towel in the hot water to clean up some squeeze out missed by the wooden chisel.
